On pins and needles, folks.

Well, tomorrow is the big day. My friend at work would call this "a come to Jesus meeting." I meet with Kayla's principal, her teacher and the school's D.A.R.E. officer and Kayla. At 11:55. (BTW- DARE. in this region, is a program for 5th graders and up wherein they pledge to and learn how to stay away from drugs and illegal substances.)
I called this wonderful man who runs my children's school on a program he calls "capturing their hearts". Hugs are allowed at this school, dis-respect is not. I explained the situation and asked for the meeting and the presence of the a police officer and without hesitation he agreed.
Its been a tiring week, I've run from the minute I am forced from my bed to the minute I give up trying to relax and I've made myself sick- well, ok, maybe it was my sniffly students that made me sick but it always happens in the busy weeks- right? Tomorrow I meet with my Navigator Artisans group for a girls night where-in I will demonstrate the little I know about encaustic painting. They are scrapbooking and I do not but will enjoy hanging with them. I sure hope someone brings some wine. (Yes, Kristi, I am counting on YOU to do this- because you are so amazingly efficient!)
Anyhow, I'm hoping my boss will take off early tomorrow afternoon and I can update you all on how the meeting went. I appreciate all the comments, especially the last few, as they help me gain perspective on a subject I may be just to close to see clearly. Good night, all- wish me luck opening a little girls eyes to a different perspective on her life.

  1. you know I am thinking of you and praying for K... I have no idea how you do it all, but remember: YOU DO! Hang in there, I'm sure if we could have coffee more often (or wine) it would help!! Let me know when you want to meet....CAN meet!

A Little Summer Fun Followed By A Little Summer Anxiety!

Yep.  Got a  little goin' on... First off-  Anything to keep these two busy!    Very first overnight camp- thought I'd be really anxious.  Turns out- not so much! A few family reunions   with a few too many pictures taken.... A little surf and sand and a husband who says "Back up...I'll get the bay in the background."   Hmmm ... looks like we're in the background and those flip flops are are pretty much the focal point of this picture.  No wonder I'm always behind the lens! Did I mention- ANYTHING TO KEEP THESE TWO BUSY???? There's been some art.... And then there's this lady.  This is the final on her face- because if I don't get this done.... Their gonna lock me away in the funny house! Oh yeah, because I just don't have enough going on.... Remember this?  The birdcage never quite made it on this lady's head but.....I did not throw it out.  Actually I lost it and finally found it un...

Paper Mache` vs. Creative Paper Clay vs. Paper Clay Recipe!

For those of you who work in figurative sculpture, or are art doll makers, or just like to putz around in an artsy way this post is for you. If you don't fit into the categories above this post may just be a yawn. Sorry. The following is a comparison of my experiences using three different products. Paper mache`, Creative Paper Clay, and paper clay recipe. This picture is a good example of how I like to mix up my mediums. The round flower is Creative Paper Clay. The 3-petal blossom is made from the paper clay recipe found on line. Both of these flowers adhered quite well with out any glue to the paper mache` background. In my Cloth and Clay group I have a discussion going about a paper clay recipe vs. purchasing the manufactured paper clay. I wanted an alternative to the little bricks and my dependency on whether or not my local hobby stores would have it in stock or not. And, truthfully, at the time with a rather large sculpture in mind I knew I would eat through those...

Whew hoo! I'm in!

The other day I picked up my mail and found this... And I was a little sad because I have been waiting for some kind of notification.... a yes or a no.  I had submitted a tiny doll for the tiny doll challenge.  I waited paitiently.  It killed me.  No e-mail.  No returned package.  No Dear John letter. So when I realized the issue with the challenge results had arrived my heart sunk a little.  I guess that was my notification.  My tiny submission would probably be returned to me shortly.  I would have to decide to buck up and remember you get a lot of no's before you get a yes. But in typical Chris fashion I had to peruse ADQ before I even got out of the car.  Yes, its that bad for me....I have no will power.... I have to give it a look over......I mean really, they had me at the cover!  That's artist Sherri Debow's art work.  All I can say to describe it is wow!  The detail, the concept, the color palette- I'm in ...
